KYMATA Film Festival 2026

Published on 20 May 2026 at 16:38

The KYMATA International Film Festival returns this summer for its 5th edition, taking place from August 21 to 30 at Thalassomylos, presenting its richest and most expanded program to date. With new additions, more days of activities, and a strongly interdisciplinary character, the festival continues to transform Kefalonia into a meeting place for cinema, music, and contemporary art.

This year’s edition will feature international competitive sections for short films in Fiction, Documentary, and — for the first time — Animation, along with large open-air screenings, tributes, masterclasses, midnight screenings, concerts, and live music cinema performances. At the same time, visitors will have the opportunity to explore a series of exhibitions, one of which will be dedicated to Greece in the 1980s.

This exhibition aims to recreate the social, political, and cultural atmosphere of Greece during the 1980s through authentic everyday objects, documents, photographs, technology, toys, printed material, advertisements, family archives, and all kinds of items carrying the imprint of that era.

In this context, we are issuing an open call to individuals, collectors, families, organizations, and professionals who may be able to temporarily provide objects or archival material from the 1980s for the realization of the exhibition.

Photos of the items you would like to contribute can be sent to:
kymatafestival@gmail.com
as well as via direct message on the festival’s social media pages.

Indicatively, we are looking for:

  • political and party-related material,
  • packaging of consumer products,
  • magazines, books, and posters,
  • toys and board games,
  • furniture and household items,
  • school-related material,
  • VHS tapes, Walkmans, hi-fi systems, and other small-scale technology,
  • clothing and accessories,
  • family photographs and videos,
  • models, replicas, and collectible items from the era.

The public’s contribution is essential in creating a vivid and authentic experience centered around a decade that shaped modern Greek society.
