The traditional custom of “Smashing the Pots” comes to life once again this year in Argostoli, with the Municipality of Argostoli collaborating with the Lyceum Club of Greek Women to revive this impressive event, which dates back to the Venetian period.
At 11:50 a.m. on Holy Saturday, April 11, the First Resurrection service will take place at the Church of Saint Spyridon on Lithostroto, where the breaking of the first clay pot will occur, marking the beginning of the Easter celebrations.
A festive parade will follow toward Kambana Square, where the crowd will witness the famous throwing of the pots, one of the most distinctive and spectacular customs of the season.
The program will continue with artistic performances, featuring the Church Choir directed by Vasilis Kalogiras and the Choir of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Argostoli conducted by Lambrogiannis Pefanis.
Later, the dance groups of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women will present traditional dances, while the festive atmosphere will be enriched musically by brothers Gerasimos and Spyros Karaviotis.
During the ceremony, Easter candles will be distributed to the public.
